As of September 30, 2019, our 2019 Iowa energy efficiency program spending is lower than planned. Therefore, the following action will be taken:
  1. For nonresidential programs, the rebate caps will be lifted for prescriptive and custom projects receiving rebates or preapproval by December 31, 2019. Custom preapproval applications must be submitted prior to December 1, 2019, to be preapproved by December 31, 2019.
  2. The per customer cap of $250,000 will be lifted through December 31, 2019. The Commercial New Construction program cap of $200,000 per building will remain in place and still is not included in the per customer cap.
  3. For projects that received “capped” rebates from April 1 through September 30, 2019, MidAmerican Energy will issue checks for the remaining portion of the capped rebate, up to the total approved or available rebate amount.
  • Participants must be nonresidential customers (commercial or industrial) with facilities located in MidAmerican Energy Company’s Iowa service territory.
  • MidAmerican Energy Company must provide the primary electricity or natural gas to the equipment at the facility for which the rebate is being paid. Additionally, heating, ventilation and air conditioning rebates may require that the primary heating fuel is provided by MidAmerican Energy Company to the installation address.
  • Transportation gas customers with daily metering are ineligible for natural gas incentives. However, customers with monthly metering under the Monthly Metered Transportation Service natural gas tariff are eligible for energy incentives.
  • Qualifying equipment must be new, installed on the premises and must not be purchased for resale.
  • Customers are responsible for ensuring that the equipment installed for these programs meets all applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Prescriptive equipment must be purchased, installed and operating between April 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2019, prior to submission of final rebate application. Rebate applications for equipment/material purchased must be submitted within 90 days of dealer invoice or by Jan. 31, 2020, whichever comes first. Applications can be submitted via email at rebateapplications@midamerican.com.
  • Prescriptive rebates will be based on the rebate schedule in effect on the date of dealer invoice for the equipment/material purchased.
  • Failure to complete the required sections and provide the requested documentation will result in denial of application.
  • Rebates are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. Rebates and incentives are offered until approved funds are exhausted or through Dec. 31, 2019, whichever comes first.
  • For prescriptive rebates, the rebate payment cannot exceed 50 percent of the installed cost (reasonable labor and material/equipment - reasonableness to be determined by MidAmerican Energy Company). Installed cost includes contractor labor only and does not include internal labor.
  • All project installations with rebates exceeding $20,000 will require an on-site verification of installation by MidAmerican Energy Company or its agent prior to issuance of rebate.
  • Rebate checks will be issued to the building owner or account holder.
  • Allow up to 4 weeks for rebate processing once application and supporting documents are received and accepted (excluding on-site verification time, if needed).
  • Rebate caps: The rebate limit is based on actual payments (prescriptive and/or custom) per customer and applies even if payments for some or all projects are paid to one or more trade ally(ies). Below are the rebate limits that may apply to customers and/or projects:
    • Prescriptive: Electric prescriptive rebates are capped $25,000 per project. Gas prescriptive rebates are capped at $5,000 per project.
    • Custom: Custom rebates are limited to $100,000 per project.
    • Commercial New Construction: Commercial new construction rebates are limited to $200,000 per building.
    • Total customer rebate: Customer rebates received across all projects under one tax identification are limited to $250,000 per program year, excluding rebates received through the Commercial New Construction program.
  • MidAmerican Energy reserves the right to withhold payment or award the incentive in the form of a bill credit for customers in arrears.
  • MidAmerican Energy reserves the right to request additional supporting documentation if necessary to ensure measure eligibility and verify existing system performance and baseline conditions.
  • Customers may not receive custom rebates in lieu of prescriptive rebates.
  • Rebates may be subject to income tax. Consult your tax advisor for more information.
  • MidAmerican Energy Company reserves the right to conduct onsite verification of equipment installation, install metering devices on new equipment, and to verify sales receipts and other project documentation at any time before or after issuing a rebate.
  • MidAmerican Energy Company does not endorse any particular manufacturer, product or system design in promoting this incentive program. Listing a product does not constitute an endorsement, nor does it imply that unlisted products are defective in any way.
  • MidAmerican Energy Company does not guarantee that installation and operation of energy-efficient equipment will result in reduced usage or in cost savings. The manner in which a customer uses and maintains energy-efficient equipment affects potential cost savings.
  • MidAmerican Energy Company makes no warranties, expressed or implied, with respect to any equipment purchased or installed, including, but not limited to, any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
  • In no event shall MidAmerican Energy Company be held liable for any incidental or consequential damages or injuries resulting from defective equipment or installation.
  • MidAmerican Energy Company may wish to publicize the customer's participation in the program, the results, the amount of incentives paid to the customer and any other information that reasonably relates to the customer's participation. In such instances, MidAmerican Energy Company will secure a release from the customer authorizing to make such information public.
  • The programs are effective April 1, 2019, through Dec. 31, 2019, unless otherwise noted, and are subject to periodic review by MidAmerican Energy Company, and MidAmerican Energy Company reserves the right to modify or end these programs at any time without any notification.
Additional Custom Project Qualifications
  • Custom projects require preapproval by MidAmerican Energy Company.
    • After an application is preapproved by MidAmerican Energy Company, the customer will receive written notification of the preapproved incentive amount, and the energy savings measures must be fully installed within six months of preapproval to qualify for incentive payments.
    • Any energy savings measures installed prior to the issuance of MidAmerican Energy Company’s written authorization or preapproval will be deemed as an unauthorized installation and MidAmerican Energy Company will have no obligation to pay incentives for those energy savings measures.
    • Regardless of preapproval from MidAmerican Energy Company, projects may be denied, or incentives reduced upon receipt of final project cost and scope of work documentation.
    • MidAmerican Energy Company reserves the right to lower the incentive amount if the quantity and/or cost of energy savings measures actually installed by the customer differ from the preapproved project.
  • For custom projects, the rebates for electric projects are $0.08-$0.12 per kWh of first-year savings. The rebates for natural gas projects are $1/therm of first-year savings. Customers will receive the lesser of the calculated custom rebate or 50 percent of the eligible project cost, and the rebate may not reduce the simple payback for the project to fewer than two years.
