Natural gas is the cleanest-burning of all fossil fuels that powers industries and heats more than half of all American homes.
When a natural gas deposit is located, a well is drilled to bring the gas to, or close to, the earth's surface where it is pumped to a processing plant. Natural gas travels from the processing plant through large underground pipelines. These pipelines are designed, constructed, maintained and operated in accordance with Department of Transportation regulations.
MidAmerican Energy proudly serves 774,000 natural gas customers in Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska and South Dakota. We safely operate more than 13,000 miles of natural gas systems, including 12,800 miles of natural gas distribution lines and equipment.
We go above and beyond to ensure the safety and security of our natural gas distribution pipeline and transmission facilities, ensuring that the public, our employees and the environment are protected at all times. Learn more about MidAmerican Energy’s integrity management programs.
