Planning for Growing Demand

As energy use grows across Illinois, one of the most common questions we hear is how we plan to meet that demand without driving up costs or compromising reliability. Our approach to this challenge is straightforward: rely on a diverse mix of energy resources – including carbon-free wind, solar and nuclear, along with traditional coal and natural gas – and plan carefully for the future.

That work doesn’t happen alone. The Illinois Commerce Commission plays an important role in reviewing our plans and investments. We share the same goal: making sure communities across Illinois have access to safe, dependable and reasonably priced energy. We respect that oversight and welcome the review process, because it helps ensure decisions are balanced, transparent and focused on the people who rely on this service every day.

Behind every decision is a long-term responsibility to plan, prepare and deliver energy people can count on.

Empowering Customers

Illinois customers have access to programs that make it easier to save energy and lower their bills. These include Instant Discounts, rebates or other incentives for upgrading to ENERGY STAR®-certified equipment, like smart thermostats, heating and cooling systems, and appliances for homes or businesses.

Community partnerships have also taken shape through programs like Neighborhood Power-Up, a pilot program launched in Rock Island that brings employees, community leaders and neighborhood partners together to help homeowners, renters and small businesses reduce energy use and manage costs. This initiative was recognized with a regional Inspiring Efficiency Innovation Award from the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. Building on its success in Rock Island, the program is now being expanded to other communities served by MidAmerican.

Investing in Illinois Communities

The MidAmerican Energy Foundation supports organizations that strengthen the Illinois communities MidAmerican customers and employees call home. That includes groups serving youth and families, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Valley, Junior Achievement of the Heartland and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center. The Foundation also partners with organizations that celebrate culture and community, including Mercado on Fifth, Quad City Arts and the Quad City Botanical Center.

The Foundation's support extends to local traditions and gathering places, from the City of Moline’s annual Lighting on the Commons and the Milan Harvest Festival to the Coal Valley Veterans Memorial. It also helps support critical services like 988 crisis response in the region. The Foundation is proud to support the organizations that serve neighbors in need and bring people together across communities.
