MidAmerican Energy is driving electric, and there’s no better time to join us! We drive electric fleet cars around our service territory, sponsor electric buses in Des Moines, Iowa City and the Quad Cities, plus we recently introduced three new all-electric bucket trucks.

Why electric?

Low-emission driving goes hand-in-hand with our 100% renewable energy vision and journey to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. In our Iowa service area, the positive impacts of driving an EV are compounded because you’re charging your vehicle with electricity generated from wind and solar. In 2021, 88.5% of the energy our Iowa customers used was from renewable sources.

Our first-of-its-kind statewide EV fast-charging network brings ease to the adoption of electric vehicles here in the Midwest with more than 40 fast-chargers placed conveniently around our service territory. Industry experts say the hype around EVs will continue. It’s estimated that the U.S. EV market will more than quadruple by 2028 compared to the 2021 market. Plus, EVs are expected to reach nearly 60% of total new vehicle sales in the U.S. by 2050.

Are you considering purchasing an EV? Review what you need to know about installing a private charger at your home.

Each year, more business owners are installing EV charging stations, automakers continue to announce a wider range of vehicle types. Plus, current models average 200-300 miles of range on a full charge. We do not currently offer any EV rebates, but several federal incentives went into effect in 2023. So, what are you waiting for?
