Ten nominated nonprofits randomly picked for $1,000 daily drawings at Iowa State Fair
DES MOINES, Iowa – (August 23, 2021) – Mentor Iowa, which provides trained volunteer mentors in Polk County to abused, neglected, and delinquent children who are under juvenile court supervision, won $10,000 Sunday in a random drawing at the Iowa State Fair, through MidAmerican Energy’s corporate citizenship program called MidAmerican Energy CARES.

Mentor Iowa is one of 10 nonprofit organizations that won $1,000 during daily drawings at the fair, based on entries submitted in-person and online. The daily winners were eligible for the $10,000 grand prize drawing.

“Nonprofits such as Mentor Iowa are deep in the trenches doing such great work to better the communities we serve, and we’re so pleased our MidAmerican CARES donation will help them continue to make a difference,” Kathryn Kunert, MidAmerican Energy vice president of economic connections and integration, said. “It’s been a very challenging time for nonprofit organizations, so it’s really important for all of us to do what we can to help them to be able to continue their important work.”

“Mentor Iowa is extremely honored to be chosen as the grand prize winner from the MidAmerican Energy CARES program!  This $10,000 funding award is needed now more than ever during these challenging times,” Marty Lester, Mentor Iowa executive director, said. “Mentor Iowa would like to thank our champions who took the time to vote on our behalf, we wouldn’t have been the Grand Prize recipient without their support! It is a wonderful feeling knowing MidAmerican Energy provides its CARES program to the communities it serves and we would also like to send congratulations to the other organizations who won $1,000.”
