Tree Services Request
Complete and submit the following form to request tree-related services. To report emergencies or situations that pose an immediate safety hazard, contact MidAmerican at 800-799-4443.
Will MidAmerican Energy prune all of my trees?
No. If a tree on your property is not growing near a MidAmerican Energy power line, you or a professional you employ are responsible for all major tree-related work, including tree removal and pruning. We only prune or remove tree branches that are deflecting, redirecting or abrading lower-voltage power lines and have a diameter of less than 4 inches. We do not prune trees near streetlights to improve lighting, only to protect the power lines that serve them.
Will you need access to my property in order to perform tree maintenance?
We may be required to enter your property in order to complete the necessary work. We strive to notify you before our crew enters your property, unless it’s an emergency.
I have a tree growing near a power line. Can I take care of it myself?
We recommend that only a qualified arborist prunes trees near electric lines. Seek out individuals or services with certified credentials to ensure the arborist has the necessary training to perform safe, effective tree care.
If you or a professional you hire are planning to do any tree pruning near a power line, call us at 888-427-5632 or email us at trees@midamerican.com at least two business days before work begins so that we can ensure that the work can be completed safely. This may include disconnecting or de-energizing lower-voltage power lines near the trees you intend to have pruned. This free service is available Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
If you're planning to prune or remove trees near high-voltage primary lines, we may also need to perform a Make Safe, in which we prune tree limbs within 10 feet of high-voltage lines and remove any branches that overhang to ensure a safe working environment for non-utility arborists. In this event, all resulting debris is left on-site and the property owner's responsibility.
Would MidAmerican ever completely remove a tree for me?
Only under special circumstances. If a tree located along the right of way and near high-voltage power lines is diseased, dying, storm-damaged or has the potential to threaten the nearby power lines, we may remove the tree at no charge. You can request a further assessment by a local MidAmerican district forester. We do not remove trees near lower-voltage service lines.
