Line and support crews head to southern Oklahoma as major winter storm moves in
DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 23, 2026) – Thirty-six MidAmerican Energy employees are heading to southern Oklahoma after electric utility OG&E requested assistance to help it respond to what is forecast to be a major winter storm with icing that will likely threaten its electric system.

The MidAmerican line crews, along with support, safety and supervisory staff, left Friday morning from locations across Iowa and the Quad Cities in Illinois. They are initially heading to Ardmore, which is north of the Texas state line.

"The local electric utility in Oklahoma is trying to put resources in place before the storm hits, so outside crews and vehicles can get there safely and be ready to respond faster,” Nick Nation, MidAmerican senior vice president of delivery, said. “I know our team will work safely and efficiently, and we’re proud they agreed to step up for what could be a very challenging assignment,” he added. “When a weather disaster strikes or is anticipated, it's important for electric utilities to get outside help quickly and we want to do what we can to assist.”

Crews will receive their storm assignments once they arrive. It's not yet known when they'll return.

MidAmerican and OG&E are members of the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group, which is part of a larger nationwide utility alliance that assists each other during emergencies.
