South Dakota Rates

After a decade of stability in natural gas delivery rates and nearly 20 years without an increase in electric base rates, MidAmerican Energy received approval from the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission on June 16, 2015, to implement rate increases for South Dakota natural gas and electric customers.

The new gas rates took effect on July 1, 2015, and the first step of the new electric rates took effect on July 13, 2015. The second step of the electric increase took effect Dec. 4, 2015.

Rate Impact

The impact of the final rate increases on customer bills varies depending on the season and the customer’s usage levels. Over a 12month period, the approximate average monthly increase for a residential customer is:

  • $4 for electric customers
  • $0.50 for natural gas customers
