MidAmerican Energy Earns a Top Utility Environmental Champion Award

DES MOINES, Iowa – (April 19, 2018) – A nationwide pre-Earth Day survey of utility customers chose MidAmerican Energy Company as one of the country’s top “environmental champion” utilities – the fourth year in a row that MidAmerican Energy has earned the honor.

Market Strategies International awarded MidAmerican Energy the environmental dedication honor. Market Strategies’ award is based on its Cogent Reports study of more than 62,000 customers among 131 of the nation's largest residential gas and electric utility providers.

“As we celebrate Earth Day, we are honored to see that our customers have recognized MidAmerican Energy’s environmental commitment four years in a row,” Adam Wright, MidAmerican Energy President and CEO, said. “Environmental respect is one of our company’s core principles, so it’s nice to see our employees receive this award for their thoughtful approach and dedication to being good stewards of the environment.”

The study ranks companies based on consumer ratings of five critical environmental attributes: promoting clean energy, enabling consumption management, facilitating environmental causes, encouraging environmentally friendly fleets and buildings, and consistently seeking ways to protect the environment.

“MidAmerican Energy is working toward a 100 percent renewable energy vision,” Wright said. “We’re helping create a cleaner environment for our customers, communities and future generations while keeping their energy costs low.”

Tree Line USA Award
Separately, earlier this month MidAmerican Energy earned the Tree Line USA Award for its commitment to tree planting, proper tree pruning and care. It’s the 17th consecutive year that MidAmerican Energy earned the honor.

The Arbor Day Foundation and National Association of State Foresters annually recognize public and private utilities for protecting and enhancing urban trees. The foundation and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources presented MidAmerican Energy the award.

To receive the award, a utility must meet five minimum requirements, including quality tree care, annual worker training, tree planting and public education, a tree-based energy conservation program, and an annual Arbor Day celebration.
