MidAmerican Energy Prepares for Winter Storm Wednesday and Thursday

DES MOINES, Iowa – (Jan. 10, 2018) – As customers stock up on supplies and necessities to prepare for a potential winter storm, MidAmerican Energy Company is taking preemptive measures in its northwest Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska service territories.

Blizzard conditions are possible overnight Wednesday through Thursday, which can include blowing snow, high winds and unsafe road conditions. MidAmerican Energy will stage service crews for overnight coverage to ensure a timely response to restore service.

“To be best prepared to meet our customers’ needs, our service crews and management team are executing a plan to respond to the effects of this storm safely and efficiently,” said Jim Dougherty, vice president of electric delivery for MidAmerican Energy. “Our employees are dedicated to working around the clock to keep our customers’ heat and lights on during inclement weather, and we appreciate their hard work.”

As the weather remains unpredictable, MidAmerican Energy encourages its customers to stay prepared for seasonal storms. The company suggests customers assemble an emergency safety kit that includes flashlights, extra batteries, bottled water, nonperishable foods, a first-aid kit and plenty of blankets and warm sweaters.

Prior to severe weather, it is a good idea to fully charge cellphones, other communication devices and battery-powered cellphone chargers. Customers can report power outages online or by calling MidAmerican Energy at 800-799-4443.
