MidAmerican Energy Answers Call for Holiday Gifts for Kids Program in Sioux Falls
DES MOINES, Iowa – (Dec. 5, 2016) – About this time of year, the MidAmerican Energy office in Sioux Falls starts to look a lot like Santa’s workshop. Employee elves come together to raise money to purchase new toys and books for the local Holiday Gifts for Kids program – just in time for Christmas.
MidAmerican Energy employees host a “Saw, Sift or Sew” auction to raise money to buy toys and books. In 2015, the Sioux Falls team raised more than $6,400. Employees are trying to raise $7,000 for the 2016 program that serves low-income families in the Sioux Empire region.
Holiday Gifts for Kids is coordinated by the Sioux Falls Jaycees Chapter. The program is designed to fill the gaps for those in need who have missed other campaign deadlines. Since 1988, MidAmerican Energy has partnered with the Sioux Falls Jaycees in support of the annual toy drive.
This auction is Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Sioux Falls Service Center, 1200 South Blauvelt Ave. Sioux Falls Jaycee members and other special guests have been invited to join MidAmerican Energy employees in a live bid auction for holiday baked goods, craft items, and merchandise donated by Sioux Falls businesses. Les Miller from Wheatstem Realty and Auction will auctioneer the event. He started volunteering for Saw, Sift or Sew in 1991.
“It really is a holiday tradition,” said Sheryl Fromm, a customer satisfaction specialist in Sioux Falls. “We appreciate the generosity of our local businesses because it shows the true spirit of the community that people in Sioux Falls feel.”
Frank Regas, a gas engineer for MidAmerican Energy in Sioux Falls, chairs the 2016 event. He called Sioux Falls a “giving community” – where a commitment to helping others comes from the heart: exactly what’s needed to pull off a big event to raise money for the Holiday Gifts for Kids program.
“If this auction is anything like last year, we’re going to have a bidding war,” Regas added. “It’s a fantastic way to help families in Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities. This event is important for the community and it’s important to us. Every child deserves a little Christmas.”
After Wednesday’s auction, MidAmerican Energy employees will divide into three teams on Friday, Dec. 9 and shop local stores to buy toys.
“We love doing this,” Regas said. “We feel the Christmas spirit and the joy of giving to others, and that’s what this is all about, getting toys for the kids.”
