Iowa Energy and MidAmerican Energy Team Up for Education Celebration
DES MOINES, Iowa – (Feb. 5, 2016) – More than 5,000 students from schools across central Iowa will fill Wells Fargo Arena on Feb. 9 to watch the Iowa Energy take on the Westchester Knicks for the seventh annual Education Celebration.
Sponsored by MidAmerican Energy, Education Celebration is a time for kids to take a break from the traditional classroom and learn through interactive activities with the players.
“We’re proud to partner with MidAmerican Energy to offer kids in our state a unique and fun learning experience,” said Randi Burrell, vice president of operations for the Iowa Energy. “Activities during the game will focus on a variety of different educational topics, while students get to witness sportsmanship and teamwork firsthand.”
Player videos on the arena video board and a workbook that includes quizzes and word games will commemorate Black History Month, promote anti-bullying and educate kids on the importance of energy efficiency. Player trading cards with tips on how students can make their home and school more energy efficient will be handed out.
MidAmerican Energy strives to educate students on the importance of using energy wisely and safely. Its education website
provides electric and natural gas safety and energy conservation materials for teachers and students Grades K-9. Topics include energy efficiency, electric and natural gas safety, and the science of electricity and natural gas.
