Plant Trees, Save Energy

For Residential Customers in Iowa

Planting trees can add beauty to your home and also can reduce your heating and cooling costs. Planting trees also improves air quality and helps protect and replenish the soil.

MidAmerican Energy offers several tree-related programs that promote the planting of trees for their energy efficiency potential. Download our Tree Information Booklet for tips on how to select the right tree location, the right tree for your yard, recommended trees for the Midwest region, how to prepare the site and proper tree care.

Trees for Kids/Trees for Teens

Trees improve the landscaping of school grounds and, when planted with proper consideration, can improve the energy efficiency of the building itself. The Trees for Kids/Trees for Teens program is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources – Bureau of Forestry, and offers Iowa schools the opportunity to apply for tree-planting project grants every spring and fall.

Educational materials and grant applications can be found at www.iowadnr.gov/education/forteachers.

Call 811 Before You Dig

Before planting your tree, the law requires you to call 811 at least two business days before digging to make certain there are no utility lines or other equipment buried underground. For more information, visit www.call811.com.
