DES MOINES, Iowa – (Aug. 9, 2012) – MidAmerican Energy Company encourages people who are attending the 2012 Iowa State Fair to stop by the company’s visitors center to learn about its renewable energy projects, energy efficiency programs and utility services.

At MidAmerican Energy’s visitors center, fairgoers can watch a video display that provides information on how geothermal energy helps cool and heat the visitors center; how a 12-panel solar array installed on the visitors center generates electricity to help run the building’s electrical system; and how much energy MidAmerican Energy’s Iowa wind turbines are generating. The video display also provides facts about MidAmerican Energy and its LEED®-certified visitors center. A publication developed for distribution at the Iowa State Fair and through other outreach is available for download.

MidAmerican Energy’s visitors center is located at the base of the Iowa State Fair wind turbine on Exposition Hill. Built in 2007, thanks in part to voluntary customer contributions to the company’s Renewable Advantage program, MidAmerican Energy’s 0.5-megawatt wind turbine is a landmark at the fairgrounds.

The visitors center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the 11-day run of the fair, Aug. 9-19, and will be staffed by MidAmerican Energy employee volunteers. Children under the age of 10 will have the opportunity to enter a coloring contest, and a $250 savings bond will be given to one winner in each of three age divisions: 1-3 years, 4-6 years and 7-10 years.

MidAmerican Energy encourages customers to follow @MidAm_EnergyCo on Twitter during the fair. Company representatives will tweet from the visitors center Aug. 13 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Aug. 17 from 11 a.m. to noon. Both Twitter sessions will address energy topics and provide answers to questions from Twitter followers and fairgoers.
