Build a Kite

You can learn a lot about wind conditions just by flying a kite. If you don't have a kite, try making one on your own. Let's get started!

  1. Look in the TOOLKIT (the box at the right) to find a list of materials you need.

  2. Select the View Instructions button below the TOOLKIT. Then, follow the instructions on how to cut the kite.

  3. IMPORTANT: Before you fly your kite, watch out for electrical wires and other things the kite might get caught on. If you have any doubts, do not fly the kite.

  4. You are ready to fly your kite! Notice how wind conditions vary. In some places, the wind is steady. In other places, the wind is turbulent.
