Here's a fun way to find out
the direction of the wind: try making a wind
sock. Let's get started!
- Look in the
TOOLKIT (the box at the right) to find a list
of materials you need. Note: you can make a weatherproof
wind sock by substituting plastic bags or nylon fabric instead of paper.
- Select the View Instructions button below the
TOOLKIT. Then, follow the instructions on the drawing.
- Tie your finished wind sock to the top of a pole.
- Use your wind sock and the magnetic compass
to measure the wind direction. Notice how high the wind lifts the
wind sock.
