Call Before You Dig

  • Contact your state's one-call utility notification service.
Call 811 or the notification service at least 48 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) before you plan to dig, blast, bore, trench, drill, grade or excavate in any way. MidAmerican Energy locators will mark MidAmerican-owned underground gas and electric utility locations within 48 hours of your call. Seek the services of a qualified private contractor to locate customer-owned underground utilities (including pipes or wires that transport natural gas or electricity that has passed through a MidAmerican-owned meter). If you can white-line your proposed excavation route, locators can more easily mark the affected utilities.
  • Never rely solely on your facility maps.
Facility maps are not updated often, and the markings may be inaccurate. Call your one-call utility notification service well ahead of digging, so underground utilities can be marked and you can work safely.
