MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company Among Best in the U.S. for Hiring Military Veterans

DES MOINES, Iowa – (Nov. 11, 2013) – For the fifth consecutive year, MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company has been named as a Top 100 Military Friendly Employer by G.I. Jobs magazine. The list is the primary benchmark of corporate recruiting programs aimed at military veterans.

MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company demonstrates its commitment and dedication to assimilating citizen military workers into the workforce through participation in the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Five-Star program. The company has continued to promote its support for the program and outreach to service members by utilizing creative and cost-effective tools, such as posting job openings to specialized job boards, as a way to reach out to both veterans and active duty service members. Human resources also has adopted program-specific hiring policies and other initiatives while participating in career fairs across the U.S.

For the past 11 years, G.I. Jobs has analyzed the benefits of more than 5,000 companies on the strength of their military recruiting efforts. Criteria used to determine company rankings include veteran recruiting, training and promotional programs, and the percentage of new hires who are military veterans.

The Top 100 list will be featured in G.I. Jobs magazine’s December 2013 issue. Frank Reber, an associate outage project manager for MidAmerican Energy Company, which is an Iowa-based subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company, was featured in the November 2013 issue of the magazine. Reber served as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant, Submarine Warfare Officer, before being hired by the company.

“The lessons learned while operating and maintaining a 75-megawatt power plant on a submarine have had a direct impact on my ability to help maintain an 800-megawatt turbine,” said Reber. “My experiences with root cause analysis, scheduling and planning work, leading cross-functional teams, communicating and the ability to manage time efficiently have all been valuable in my civilian job.”
