Each of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company's diversified fuel sources – coal, geothermal, hydroelectric, natural gas, nuclear and wind – has different environmental implications.

Electricity generated from fossil fuels results in emissions to the air; nuclear power raises issues regarding the handling and storage of radioactive waste; and hydroelectric power can impact river systems, wetlands and biodiversity. Transmission and distribution of power and the delivery of natural gas also have environmental impacts, largely experienced during the construction of these systems.
