EnergyAdvantage® For Your Business

Commercial New Construction

MidAmerican Energy's Commercial New Construction program encourages the design
and construction of new – as well as the renovation of existing –
energy-efficient commercial buildings in Iowa. Incentives are available
to help offset the higher initial costs associated with the design and
installation of energy-efficient options. The new (or renovated) building must
receive its primary electricity from MidAmerican. Where applicable, the direct
supply of natural gas also must be provided by MidAmerican.
Energy Design Assistance
This program offers two tracks of energy design assistance to match the needs
of your project.
 |
 |
The Custom Track closely follows our traditional approach to high
performance new buildings. Energy savings through this track typically are 30-40
percent better than the Iowa State Energy code. The ideal time for enrollment
is just before the end of the schematic design phase. |
|   |
 |
 |
The Custom Track Plus
goes beyond the traditional approach, both in terms of energy design
analysis and results. This track is designed to help developers
achieve 40–60 percent and higher energy savings above the Iowa Energy
Code and meet ENERGY STAR's® guidelines, Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design, or LEED, federal tax credits and other energy goals you might
have. Enrollment must occur in the space-type programming phase, or
just following architect selection. |
Design Incentives
These are available to design teams who use the services of an independent
building energy performance modeler (contracted by MidAmerican) who is not part
of the design team of record. Prior to a project being accepted into the program,
the independent modeler will screen the project to determine if the project
meets program guidelines, the project energy-savings goals and the likelihood
of significant energy savings to be gained through use of advanced energy
design analysis. Design incentives are determined based on the square footage
and type of building.
Construction Incentives
The independent building modeler will be responsible for producing a final
energy verification report. The construction incentives will be paid to the
building owner based on the kWh and therm savings modeled and verified as
installed by the independent modeler. A minimum energy savings of 15 percent
beyond that required by the Iowa Energy Code is required to qualify. Incentives
range from $.06 to $.19 per kWh saved and $.60 to $1.90 per therm saved when
compared to the Iowa Energy Code. Projects that cannot achieve the 15 percent
minimum energy savings may still qualify for rebate incentives under other
EnergyAdvantage programs.
