MidAmerican Energy partners with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources in offering the Plant some shade residential tree-planting program. The concept of MidAmerican's Plant some shade program is to work with local county conservation boards, resource conservation and development councils, and/or county extension offices (local project coordinators) to provide affordable and desirable landscape trees (6-8') for residents to purchase and plant on their property for long-term community reforestation. Trees are ordered in bulk numbers from local nurseries to keep costs low and then distributed at a centralized location to minimize transportation costs. Investment by residents (1/2 price) is required. Tree recipients are given instructions and contact names on how to plant and care for their trees. There is no warranty or guarantee on these trees. The idea of this program is not only to get new trees planted at reduced costs where they are needed, but to have residents investing in the purchase of the tree(s) ($25/tree, or 1/2 price), which encourages ownership/maintenance for a long-living tree. In addition, we provide safety information so customers avoid planting under power lines.

Watch our Web site for upcoming spring and fall events. Spring events usually are posted by the end of April, and fall events usually are posted by the end of August. If you are a MidAmerican customer and live in Iowa, you may apply for the event closest to you.
