EnergyAdvantage® New Homes Program
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized MidAmerican Energy with the Excellence in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Education 2005 Award for its outstanding contributions to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by promoting the construction of energy-efficient homes. MidAmerican’s accomplishments were recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. March 15, 2006. MidAmerican is one of five utilities in the country to receive this award.

In addition, MidAmerican received the 2004 ENERGY STAR®-Labeled Homes Outstanding Achievement Award. The award recognizes the important contribution that MidAmerican has made to the environment by meeting or exceeding ENERGY STAR guidelines in its EnergyAdvantage New Homes program. Each new home that has earned the ENERGY STAR keeps 4,500 pounds of global warming gases out of the air every year.

MidAmerican also received the 2003 Governor's Iowa Environmental Excellence Award, Special Recognition in the Energy Efficiency/Renewable Energy category. This award recognized MidAmerican's role in promoting the construction of energy-efficient homes in our service territory.

Build Your New Home with Energy Efficiency in Mind
MidAmerican is helping our Iowa customers recognize and realize the outstanding long term value inherent in energy-efficient new homes. The EnergyAdvantage New Homes program provides builders with a comprehensive list of prescriptive measures designed to significantly improve the energy efficiency of the homes they build. The program helps you and your builder through the design, specification and building process so that you complete the home building process with an energy-efficient, affordable and comfortable new home. The program is available to new single-family home construction in Iowa. Comprehensive, energy-efficient Iowa builder rebates up to $1,750 per home pay approximately 50 percent of the incremental cost of the upgrades. Additional rebates are available for ground-source heat pumps. For information on multifamily homes, call 800-894-9599.

There are many extra potential benefits for home owners:

Improved and affordable comfort;
Improved indoor air quality (IAQ);
Strong position for high resale value;
Prevent pollution while saving money on future utility bills; and
Projected positive net monthly cash-flow.

Please print our 2008 specifications sheet if you’re an Iowa home builder and want to participate in the EnergyAdvantage New Homes program. The 2008 New Homes Program Field Verification form now can be completed online.
