Electric Transmission
Overview
In December 2011, the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator, Inc. board of
directors unanimously approved the organization’s Transmission Expansion Plan 2011.
The plan is a comprehensive long-term regional plan for the electric grid that will
bring more than $2 billion in annual benefits to energy consumers throughout the Midwest.
The projects in the MISO plan are primarily designed to deliver reliability to the Midwest
region and provide effective and efficient transmission solutions to meet expected growth
in renewable energy generation.
MidAmerican Energy Company will assist with the construction of four of the plan’s 17
transmission projects. MidAmerican Energy’s portion of the project will affect 12 Iowa
counties and three Illinois counties.
