Save That Bag!
You can save energy by helping your family use fewer grocery bags:
With your family, pick a spot in your home or garage to store grocery bags so you can use them again.
- Try to remember to bring your used bags to the store with you. That way, when they ask you “Paper or plastic?” you can say “Neither, thank you.” To save even more energy, bring your own cloth or canvas bags to the store with you when you shop.
- Think about other ways you can reuse grocery bags. For example, plastic bags can be used to line wastebaskets.
- Paper grocery bags hold more items than plastic bags. So if you use paper bags, you’ll need fewer grocery bags for each load of groceries.
- After your paper grocery bags wear out, recycle them.
- Many supermarkets have a bin where you can turn in your old plastic bags for recycling.
