Home Energy Reportarrows

In November 2011, MidAmerican Energy launched an innovative three-year pilot program designed to help customers better assess their energy consumption and explore ways to reduce their energy use. The Home Energy Report program is offered to a randomly selected group of MidAmerican Energy’s residential customers in Iowa.

Selected customers will receive a customized home energy report six times a year. The report will arrive via U.S. Postal Service and separate from the customer’s MidAmerican Energy utility bill. Each report will include:
  1. A Usage Comparison: The selected customer’s home energy use is compared to 100 similarly sized and equipped homes within the participant’s area. This does not necessarily mean that comparisons are made to next-door neighbors. Homes are chosen based upon a defined set of characteristics, including dwelling type, size and heating source. This prevents comparisons of a homeowner’s energy use with that of a vacant home. Comparison information is anonymous and confidential and is provided solely for the selected customer.
  2. Usage History: Each home energy report will include usage history associated with the current address of each selected customer. Visual representation of usage history easily identifies spikes in energy use, which may or may not be associated with seasonal changes, and provides an overarching assessment of energy used within certain time periods.
  3. Energy Efficiency Tips: Based on the home’s characteristics and energy consumption pattern, each selected customer will receive targeted tips to help achieve energy efficiency, which also will help save money on monthly energy bills. In addition to information about rebates and other programs MidAmerican Energy offers, free and low-cost energy efficiency tips will be featured on each report.

Customers that receive the printed reports can call 855-212-0004 to opt-out of the program. Customers cannot opt in to the program; however, customers who express an interest in the program will be added to a waiting list and may be able to participate should additional customers be added to the program at a later date.
