Money for Motors Programarrows

Save money and increase your facility’s reliability by replacing an antiquated motor before it fails and shuts down your operation.

MidAmerican Energy will offer a bounty to customers who remove and environmentally dispose of old, inefficient 1 to 500 horsepower motors. If the replacement motor meets specific energy efficiency requirements, an additional rebate may be available for the new motor. A rebate is offered to the motor distributor to help with the recycling process and lessen the burden on the owner. The old motor must be taken out of service to qualify for the bounty.

Program Rebates
  1. Existing motor bounty – Rebae to the customer for motors 1-20 HP, $50 per horsepower; for motors 25-200 HP, $40 per horsepower; for motors 225-500 HP, $30 per horsepower. In no case will the motor bounty exceed 70 percent of the new motor’s installed cost (labor and material).
  2. Replacement motor 1-200 HP – If the replacement motor installed is an ultra-premium motor identified as one band above NEMA Premium®, the customer receives a rebate per the current MidAmerican Energy motor program rebate table in addition to the bounty for the existing motor identified in item one above. There is no rebate for motors larger than 200 HP.
  3. Replacement motor – If the replacement motor installed is NEMA Premium efficiency, the customer will receive the existing motor bounty but no additional rebate for the NEMA Premium replacement unit.
  4. Recycling fee for motor distributor – For motors 1-20 HP, $15 per horsepower; for motors 25-200 HP, $10 per horsepower; for motors 225-500 HP, $5 per horsepower payable to the motor distributor. Note: If the motor is not recycled by the motor distributor, the motor shaft must be cut off and a three-inch section cut out of the motor frame rendering it inoperable. The motor must be retained for Midmaerican Energy inspection.
  5. Salesperson rebate – For motors 1-50 HP, $1 per horsepower; for motors 60-500 HP, $0.50 per horsepower for sale of the replacement motor payable to the motor distributor for disbursement to the salesperson.
