Nonresidential Building Shell Program
Save some green by making upgrades to your building shell – it makes good business sense. Inadequate insulation, air leakage, and poor-performing windows and doors can be causes of wasted energy at your business. Insulation is measured in R-value – the higher the R-value, the better the insulating property. The lower a product’s U-factor, the lower the amount of heat loss and the better a product is at insulating a building. Consider the following benefits of upgrading your building shell:
- Comfort is improved year round
- May significantly reduce heating and cooling costs
- Saves natural resources
- Helps with sound proofing
- All types approved by local building codes
- Infiltration control measures such as weather stripping, caulking, foam backer rod, etc.; building wrap products do not qualify
- Attic/roof and sidewall applications
- Program adding insulation to existing buildings up to State of Iowa Energy Code
Insulation in new buildings may be eligible for rebates through MidAmerican Energy's Commercial New Construction program.
Eligible Windows and Doors
- Other than metal framed
- Metal framed – curtain wall/storefront
- Metal framed
- Opaque doors
- Glass doors
- Roll-up or sliding doors
The program is available to all nonresidential natural gas and electric customers in MidAmerican Energy's Iowa service territory. Qualifying projects are eligible for rebates.
MidAmerican Energy also provides financial incentives to help customers implement energy-efficient equipment
and systems that are not included in our prequalified equipment lists or addressed in other EnergyAdvantage programs. Cash
incentives will be customized and are based on the qualifying equipment’s higher incremental cost, peak demand reduction,
annual energy use reduction and annual energy cost savings. An application for the Custom Systems program must be received
and preapproved by MidAmerican Energy prior to the customer’s purchase and installation of equipment or systems to be
eligible for a rebate. MidAmerican Energy can provide technical assistance to expedite the rebate application process.

Although noted in the nonresidential prescriptive program brochures’ Terms and Conditions
(“Rebates exceeding $10,000 require preapproval by MidAmerican Energy Company.”),
preapproval is NOT required
for nonresidential prescriptive projects exceeding
$10,000. Preapproval is still required in the Custom Systems program.
